Program Certification

To help differentiate your program, Accelero will manage certification for select, reputable, third-party organizations.

Joint Commission Disease-Specific Care

Although the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) does not certify orthopaedic centers, the Joint Commission offers a Disease-Specific Care Certification Program which is designed to evaluate clinical programs across the continuum of care for virtually any chronic disease or condition.  Specific to orthopedics, the Joint Commission offers individual certifications for joint replacement (ankle, hip, knee and shoulder), hand surgery, hip fracture and spine surgery.

Accelero uses proprietary tools and best practices to create the most up to date processes and procedures.  Hospitals that are Accelero customers already have the foundation in place to quickly become certified, further enhancing their reputation.  Accelero will facilitate and manage the certification process for a hospital from the beginning through to a successful conclusion–so you can realize the benefits sooner.

Payer Programs

Private payers offer certifications to ensure facilities are providing a high quality of care at a reasonable cost.  Payers require facilities must meet a long list of requirements including hospital and surgeon volume in each of the categories, facility criteria including third-party accreditation as well as sufficient ratings and procedures to insure acceptable quality and clinical outcomes.

Aetna Institutes of Quality (IOQ)

Aetna offers the designation of Aetna IOQ Orthopedic Care Facility for knee replacement, hip replacement and spine surgery.  Facilities must be credentialed by Aetna and take part in their provider network.

BlueCross Blue Shield Blues Distinction

Blues Distinction is the most prevalent of payer recognition programs.  Qualifying institutions are referred to as Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care®. Relative to orthopedics, there are Blue Distinction Centers for Spine Surgery and Knee and Hip Replacement.  To date, there are nearly 800 Blue Distinction Centers across 42 states.

Maximize Your Certification

Once certification is obtained, Accelero can help the facility to maximize the benefits by building greater recognition and growth through:

  • Distinctive brand strategy that aligns consumer values and creates differentiation.
  • Targeting of consumer communities and referral sources for the greatest volume.
  • Comprehensive marketing plan consisting of promotion, advertising, and digital media.
